Over forty Eastmonters attended the outstanding Marine Band concert at Summit High School, Friday evening, October 9th given by "The President's Own." Created in 1798 by an act of Congress, the Band is the oldest continuously active professional musical organization in America. A marvelous presentation by any measure, it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in the packed gymnasium. Nearly 100 newly-minted Oregon National Guard recruits also attended and were impressive in their discipline and demeanor. Veterans of WW2 as well as members of all five military Services were recognized and honored. Also amazing was that fact that the encore selection of "God Bless America" was known and sung by nearly everyone in attendance.
